Constellation Sudoku*

Number Puzzles

Printable Puzzle

Another clever variation of Sudoku on a "standard" 9x9 grid which contains a set of special clue-numbers. These are small numbers placed on the border lines between selected pairs of neighboring cells of the grid. Each clue-number is the difference of two numbers that should be in the respective pair of the neighboring cells just next to left & right (or right & left) from that clue-number.

For example, clue-number 7 on the line between two neighboring cells means that possible pairs of numbers for these cells can be from the following combinations: 1 and 8; 2 and 9; 8 and 1; or 9 and 2.

Also, an additional set of 15 starting numbers {1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9} is given to fill in the 15 squares containing stars, a number per star. All those 15 starting numbers should be used, but their order can differ from that shown.

The remaining rules are as in a "standard" Sudoku, and the object of the puzzle is to fill in the whole 9x9 grid with numbers 1 through 9 (one number per cell) so that each horizontal line, each vertical line, and each of the nine 3x3 squares (outlined with the bold lines) must contain all the nine different numbers 1 through 9.

IMPORTANT NOTE. The Constellation Sudoku may be hard to solve!

To solve the puzzle you may want to print just the above grid. For this click the image of the grid to go to a new window with this grid; then you can print it out.

Note that you can print the puzzle for your own use only, and not for any kind of commercial profit.
